Cox shows that he could blend into normality without being caught. Hopkins on the other hand, never passes the creepy stage - he is too creepy and doesn't have the "acting" ability of a true psychopath to mask that image from the public eye. We can see Cox is devoid of compassion, and yet acts like a normal person. So when we analyze the profiles of true psychopathic serial killers, we can quite clearly see that Cox plays the better Lecter than Hopkins. A psychopath is not necessarily a killer - a psychopath is simply someone who does not feel for other human beings, which is often why the psychopath killers of this world were in fact convincing actors - for example Geoffrey Dahmer and Charles Manson. Some of the world's best actors are in fact psychopaths. Cox plays a true psychopath - one devoid of feelings, and yet a consummate actor. Cox never seems to be acting, he really plays the part with mystery and ambiguity not like the distinctly maniacal Lecter that Hopkins portrays. It is true, as one other reviewer says, Hopkins acts Lecter, Cox *IS* Lecter. Cox plays Lecter convincingly, and you can read from other reviewers who praised his work shows that with a little objectivity we can see an alternative representation of Lecter. How about being a little objective? On its own as the original Hannibal Lecter movie, Manhunter is a good movie. ![]() Every single bad review that criticizes Cox or Noonan invariably mentions the movie "Red Dragon" in the same breath. I have a problem with a lot of people's review of "Manhunter".

![]() Otherwise, it looks like a simple clean will have the interior looking pretty nice once again.ĭue to the fact that the Fairlane has been sitting for more than 20-years, you can be pretty sure that there is going to be some work to do before the car is ready to hit the road again. The carpet is faded in a few spots and has fallen down around the pedals on the driver’s side, but it certainly isn’t in need of immediate replacement. There is some wear on the wheel rim, and some of the trim in the cargo area is also looking marked, but the seats and door trims are in fantastic condition. If there is something wrong, then it is one of the few faults to be found inside the car. I have been trying to determine whether there is something odd going on with the dash pad on the driver’s side of the car, or if it is just a trick of the light. I don’t think that I have ever spent so long inspecting any photos of a car’s interior as I have with this old Ford. However, all of these items look to be easily repairable. The rear bumper appears to have copped some damage at some point in time, and the knock-on effect of this is that the driver’s side quarter panel and the edge trim for the woodgrain sections have been slightly damaged. The owner doesn’t mention any issues with the floor or frame, but if the cleanliness of the rear pan is any indication, then this is another aspect of the car that appears to be really promising. It doesn’t look like the Fairlane has any major rust issues, although there are some indications that there might be some minor spots in the lower fenders and lower quarter panels. The owner is very forthright in saying that this is most definitely a project car, but the initial signs are quite encouraging. The asking price for this Ford classic is $6,500.įinished in Corinthian White, the first piece of good news about this Ford is that it does appear to be complete. It is located in Bangor, Pennsylvania, and is listed for sale here on Craigslist. Barn Finder FordGuy1972 referred the Fairlane to us, and it appears that he knows how to spot a great blue-oval project car. After spending the past 20-years hidden away in a garage, this 1963 Fairlane Country Squire has emerged into the light of day, and it looks like it would be one pretty good project car. 11/23/2023 0 Comments Tali sharot optimism bias![]() The factor that is most debated is the relationship between happiness and wealth. ![]() The result? They are less anxious and adjust better to stress factors…” A survey conducted by the British research company Ipsos MORI revealed that people believe the following five factors are most likely to enhance our happiness in order of importance, they are: more time with the family, earning more money, better health, more time with friends, and more traveling. Because optimists expect to do better and be healthier, they have fewer subjective reasons for worry and despair. They expect to do well in life, have good relationships, and be productive, healthy, and happy. “By definition, optimists are people who hold positive expectations of the future. Underestimating the probability of future adverse events reduces our level of stress and anxiety which is beneficial to our health. Optimists also experience faster recovery after coronary bypass surgery than pessimists and are less likely to be rehospitalized. The result is that optimists live longer and pessimists die younger. On the other hand, optimists exercise more, are more likely to reduce their body-fat level, take more vitamins and eat low fat diets. Researchers have found that people who react to illness with passive acceptance of their own impending death die prematurely. But what happens when positive expectations do not lead to positive outcomes and cause disappointment? Is it not better to hold lower expectations in order to protect ourselves from frustration? The truth is that low expectations do not diminish the pain of failure and often lead to worse results. Nevertheless by pointing to a new behavior, that is rigorous training and lack of compromise, the claim resulted in a repeat championship.”Therefore, believing in a positive outcome will enhance the probability that the desired outcome will be realized” explains Sharot. No one can know what the future will hold. Riley’s statement was false at the time it was made because no event is predetermined. However, a prediction has an influence on the event it predicts because people’s behavior is determined by their subjective perception of reality. Predicting your team will win does not necessarily make it so. The Lakers was a great team with renowned players like Magic Johnson, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar but it was their head coach, Pat Riley who created a buzz by telling a reporter that he guaranteed his team would win the NBA championship again next year. When the Lakers won the NBA championship after defeating the Boston Celtics in 1987, everyone wanted to know if the Lakers would be able to win the championship a second time since no team had managed a repeat since the Boston Celtics won twice in a row in 1969. Optimism can even transform predictions into reality. Tali Sharot argues that optimism might be so essential to our survival that it is hardwired in our brain where it creates our hopes and dreams. The author, one of the most innovative neuroscientists at work today, provides some fascinating insight into her research on optimism, memory and emotion. This is known as the optimism bias which Tali Sharot describes in her book ‘The Optimism Bias: A Tour of the Irrationally Positive Brain’ as “an inclination to overestimate the likelihood of encountering positive events in the future and to underestimate the likelihood of experiencing negative events.” As we grow older, we should be wiser and be able to distinguish between the harsh reality and the world full of hope that we believe is real. Yes, indeed, whether we are eight or eighty, we wear rose-tinted glasses. We have a tendency to be optimistic but most of us are not aware about it. 11/23/2023 0 Comments 2017 chevrolet traxThe Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the Trax its highest possible rating of Good in its small-overlap and moderate-overlap front-impact tests as well as a Good score for the side-impact, roof strength and head restraint (whiplash protection) tests. ![]() In government crash tests, the 2017 Trax received a top five-star rating overall, with five stars for total front-impact safety and five stars for total side crash safety. Overall, though, the 2017 Trax is more attractive and competitive this year, and it's certainly worth a look if interior space is a priority. The Jeep Renegade brings a bit of off-road ruggedness to the mix, while its corporate cousin, the Fiat 500X, upstages the Trax with its Italian design. The sporty Mazda CX-3 and the roomy Honda HR-V are smart choices, and they deliver excellent fuel economy to boot. If these are areas of concern, you might be happier with one of the Trax's rivals. The Trax is still a relative underperformer for fuel economy, and its ride quality on rough roads isn't the smoothest. Unfortunately, Chevrolet didn't address all of the Trax's existing deficiencies. Several new options are available as well, such as keyless entry and ignition and advanced safety features. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone app integration are new this year and relegate navigation duties to your phone's default app rather than the last year's BringGo premium app. Inside, the instrument panel has a more traditional and flowing look to it, which we like better than last year's blocky dash. So, based on all that, I'd expect the batteries in the 12c to last longer due to it's much lower "off" power consumption.Īnd here's some the reasons that could be wrong, or right for the wrong reasons: figuring the average calculator spent the majority of its time in the off state, and the idle state after that. I didn't measure current for processing keystrokes, running programs, etc. I have recently acquired a 19b and 19bii that use the N cells, I'm anxious to see how long they last because they are a pain in the arse to change (side batt door, but in good shape). I buy them in bulk on Amazon at reasonable prices. The LR44 cells in my 17b and 17bii's do need replacement more frequently than the 2032's. I can't remember when or if the original cells needed replacement. I have two of the newer fast 12c+'s with 2 2032's as well. Incidentally, the keyboard feel on these models is outstanding, but the orange and blue keyboard legends aren't nearly as bright and readable.ĭave, I can't speak for the LR44 cells in the early 12c's because my oldest 12c is from 2001 and it has the single 2032. I don't know the exact date range that the 1xCR2032 model was produced, but mine appears to be from 2002 according to the serial number. I am unable to successfully send a ‘notification’ to myself because my email address as a ‘member’ cannot be ‘confirmed’. This is what I previously meant by ‘STHM notifications’ - I apolgise for the error. Further, it allows one to ‘Send notification to members’ and to ‘Send to specific members’. The editing function of the Automation facility allows one to ‘Notify someone’ that the condition has been met. So, in constructing an Automation within the Android SmartThings application, I felt it prudent to communicate the state when a particular condition is met, e.g., when a motion or open/close sensor is tripped. (I may have wrongly used the acronym STHM in describing this, however I plead ignorance in this matter). This email address is critical to the communications from the SmartThings Android application, and intrusion system I have constructed thereon, using the Automations which form a part of this system. It is also the email address I used to establish my Samsung Account. This email address is valid and currently receives many emails per day. This is the email address for which I do not receive the confirmation - and so it cannot be used. You can see that there is an ‘ unconfirmed’ entry, followed by ‘resend confirmation email’. This takes me to the following screen (extract follows): ![]() After logging in here I go to the member Preferences option in the dropdown menu (as per the image below). In a Non-Newtonian fluid the relation between the shear stress and the shear rate is different and can even be time-dependent (Time Dependent Viscosity) - a constant coefficient of viscosity cannot be defined for Non-Newtonian fluids as its possible for Newtonian fluids. In a Newtonian fluid the relation between shear stress and the shear rate is linear, passing through the origin, the constant of proportionality being coefficient of viscosity. The result of that stress is described as strain. In science, stress means that a force is applied to a body. Usually, the viscosity of non-Newtonian fluids is dependent on shear rate or shear rate history, or their viscosity is shear independent but still exhibit normal stress-differences or other Non-Newtonian behavior. The viscosity changes as the force applied changes. Non-Newtonian fluids have viscosities that change according to the amount of force that is applied upon the fluid. The viscosity remains constant as the force applied changes. For example: fluids like water, have lower viscosity unlike fluids such as honey or syrup.įor Newtonian fluids, changing the force you apply to the fluid will not change their viscosity. Viscosity, measures a fluids ability to resist gradual deformation by shear or tensile stresses, in other words, is a propriety that measures how easily a fluid move: if a fluid has high viscosity, then the fluid will move slower if a fluid has low viscosity, then it will move faster. Newtonian fluids have a constant viscosity (flow). Two types of fluids exist: Newtonian fluids and Non-Newtonian fluids. And so many games similar to pool that you can play.Condensed version of "A Brief History of the Noble Game of Billiards" By Mike Shamos. There are so many variations of games you can play on a pool table. You continue playing (straight through) until you’ve reached the agreed-upon points. This game doesn’t end when you pocket all the balls, though. If you foul three times in a row, then you take away 15 points. You gain points by pocketing object balls and lose points if you do a foul. You can change the point amount if you need a shorter game. In this game, you play with a score of 100 points. You will need the traditional 15-object balls. This pool game is very popular as it was played in the movie The Hustler. None of the balls that go into a different pocket count. The goal is to get 8 balls into your pocket before someone else does. You cannot score in any other pocket, which makes for quite a unique and fun game. One pocket comes from the fact that you can only score in one pocket at the foot of the table. The player with the most object balls legally pocketed wins. If there is no bank shot involved, you don’t get the point. It doesn’t count if you do not score based on what you called.Įach ball must be pocketed through a bank shot. Bank Poolīank Pool comes from the term “Bank Shot.” You use the traditional 15 balls for this game, and you must call your shots. ![]() To make it more difficult, you can make the game where you have to call your shot. This one is challenging because the cue ball should always come in contact with the lowest number. You rack the balls 1 through 10 in a triangle formation. If you have ever played 9 ball, 10 ball is very similar to that. You have to call your shots in this game, which makes this game more of a challenge! 10 Ball Pool It requires 21 balls, and you must get an oversized rack to rack the balls up.Įach player is given nine innings to sink in as many balls as possible into the pockets. ![]() Whoever finishes off their opponent’s balls wins! Baseball Billiardsīaseball Billiards is similar to the rules of baseball. Some popular alternative games you can play are the following: The game can seem a little complicated at first, but as you continue playing, it becomes easier and easier. The object of the game is to try and hit one object ball into the second object ball for points. The cue ball must come into contact with the red ball on the first shot. The cue ball is six inches away from the white ball. The white ball with the black dot at the head spot.Instead of a large number of balls for regular pool, there is a cue ball, a white ball with a black dot, and a red ball.įrom here, this is how the game should be completed: This game doesn’t have as many balls, either. Ironically, it is not really considered a pool table game since it does not have pockets, but it can still improve your skill since it has similar concepts to regular pool. It doesn’t have the same setup as regular pool. It is sometimes even called French Billiards.
